Physics & Astronomy PICUP Workshop

The 4th annual Greater Chicagoland PICUP Workshop will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at Lewis University in Romeoville, IL. You can register here. The registration fee of $25 includes lunch.

This is open to all physics and astronomy educators from around the Chicagoland area (or anywhere else if you’re willing to travel!) that want to add computation in their courses! Those in other disciplines are welcome to attend and get ideas for implementing computation into their courses as well. The scope of this workshop is appropriate for physics teachers from high schools, 2-year colleges, and 4-year colleges and universities. Your students are also welcome to attend; this would be especially beneficial for students in physics teacher prep tracks.

The workshop will include demonstrations and discussions about various aspects of integrating computational activities into physics/astronomy courses at all levels from introductory to advanced in high schools and colleges. There will also be guided working time wherein participants will explore tested exercises, and will build an outline that will serve as the beginning of a plan for integrating computational activities into their specific courses. This year’s workshop will also include sessions on AI use in the classroom and computation in Introductory Astronomy classes.

Finally, by participating in this workshop participants will become plugged into a growing and supportive community of physics educators dedicated to improving the physics curriculum. The support system includes a repository of developed computational materials as well as dedicated online and personal community support.We hope to see you there!
